From the outside looking in, it is easy to think college athletes just play a sport and go to school. What part of that lifestyle do you wish non-athletes knew about?
Even when we have “free time” it’s not free time. We constantly have to be on top of when we have to be at practice, lift, meetings, etc. on top of school, homework, and fueling our bodies. I feel like non-athletes think that we are very calm cool and collected but we are always stressed about getting someplace early.
It truly is a full time job and on top of that, some of us are even working too. It’s a great opportunity and it’s super stressful. There’s so much to balance and so much pressure to perform in every way. It may look like a luxury from the outside but it’s very high demand. I can’t stand when people think we have it easy
The inability to relax is a huge thing. I’m constantly thinking about the practice I have tomorrow or the homework I need to finish before my weekend of games. It’s like a never ending job, not just practice obligations and classes, even when not in the midst of an activity the following day is always in mind and the obligations for the following days.
